In England today few poets are as popular as
Dylan Thomas – his magical poems have corrupted
a whole generation of English poets; yet
he is surely one of the most obscure poets who
ever lived.

It’s a dull time for poetry. When did you last read something that electrified you? It’s a time of women’s poetry, lesbian poetry, gay poetry, black poetry, poetry translated from Moldavian dialects, gypsy poetry, handicapped poetry, computer generated poetry, minorities and majorities poetry, poetry against the war, poetry for the peace, poetry against plastic bags, poetry for creative cyclists. It’s the time of poetry of the writing class. But where are the poets? What happened to poetry?
