NO SUBJECT is too esoteric, it seems, for the poet laureate. Andrew Motion, holder of the post since 1999, has written a work to mark the 200th anniversary of the national census. His previous work has celebrated such unlikely subjects as Childline, the TUC conference and the Salvation Army.
All of Us, 32 lines of rhyming couplets, begins with a look back through time to when Britan’s mostly rural population was „a field full of folk“, and moves forward to today’s „stadium hulks“ of football crowds.
